Religious Freedom is a fundamental right and is guaranteed by the Swiss Federal Constitution and the European Convention on Human Rights. It is also a fundamental part of a democratic state. Every person has the right to choose ones religion, to practice it on one’s own or in a community and to follow religious practice. The SIG endorses Religious Freedom and regards it as a major achievement that needs to be protected and sustained. Nevertheless, the SIG acknowledges that Religious Freedom is not boundless. It can be called into question, once it collides with other fundamental rights and obligations.
