Prevention

One of the main concerns of the SIG is to combat against anti-Semitism.  This includes information on anti-Semitic incidents and endeavours to counter anti-Semitism through law, especially through application of the anti-racism norm (Article 261bis of the Penal Code). The SIG also maintains contacts with politicians, authorities and the press in order to create awareness of this problem.
In conjunction with this, the SIG carries out prevention and education work by briefing the non-Jewish population on Jewish issues and combatting prejudices. Briefing events serve this purpose, as do factsheets published on the SIG website. They supply information on Jewish history, Jews in Switzerland and Judaism in general.

SIG in the Federal Commission Against Racism

The SIG is also a member of the Advisory Group of the International Task Force for Holocaust Remembrance and Education (ITF), which operates on political and social levels and provides Holocaust education. The SIG is also represented on the Federal Commission Against Racism and provides both financial and moral support for a variety of projects and organisations which work towards preventing racism and anti-Semitism. The SIG also runs its own dialogue project  (known as the Likrat project) for young people. This fosters debate on Judaism in schools.
