SIG Publication Series
In 1992, to further the aim of promoting awareness and understanding of Jewish history and culture, the SIG began publishing a series of texts entitled “Articles on the History and Culture of Jews in Switzerland”.Availability

The account of contemporary history presented in the first ten volumes was dominated by the period of National Socialism. It includes a discussion of such issues as anti-Semitism and defence, refugee policy and the effects of the Holocaust in the post-war era.
New orientation for the programme
Volume 11 of the series, on the Jews of St. Gallen between 1803 and 1933, took the series for the first time in a new thematic direction. The emphasis of the contributions today lies in describing the Jewish community in the various regions of Switzerland. This thematic shift in focus is evidence of the fact that the SIG and its communities have now to consider issues beyond those dealt with hitherto and be seen against the background of Jewish communities achieving public and legal recognition in individual cantons. This produces a new de facto reality in politics and society.
