Press Files

The SIG retains extensive press files in its office premises. These are available after prior notification for the purposes of journalistic investigation as well as research and study. The SIG’s historical archives have been remitted to the Contemporary History Archive of the Federal Institute of Technology [ETH, Zurich] and are available for research, subject to the archive’s regulations.

The SIG’s press files provide a basis for the work of its various departments particularly for the work of its cultural affairs advisory and information services. It contains reports, articles and news items. These are mainly from Swiss newspapers and journals from around 1990 to the present day.

The SIG’s historical archives

The SIG’s historical archives are managed by the Federal Institute of Technology [ETH, Zurich]. The joint work of the two institutions in connection with archiving matters began in the 1980’s. In 1995 they jointly set up the “Foundation for Contemporary Jewish History” at the Federal Institute of Technology [ETH, Zurich] for the Safekeeping and Consultation of Historical Sources in Switzerland.

Subject to the current regulations governing accessibility for research purposes, protocols, reports, correspondence and other documents are available in the following fields:
  • SIG transaction archive (1902 – 1995)
  • SIG file archives (Archive of the Jewish Press Centre, Zurich, Archive of the ‘Jüdische Nachrichten' (Jewish News, [JUNA]), records of the Nürnberg War Crimes Trials)
  • Archive of the Association of Swiss Jewish Welfare Organisations (VSJF) 1936-1990.
