Youth Work

One of the aims of the SIG’s youth work is to give Jewish children and adolescents the opportunity to get to know their age peers and strengthen their sense of Jewish identity. This is done at shared social, cultural and sporting events, on trips, and in holiday camps.

Historically, the programme of events has been directed in particular at children and young people who are not involved in a Jewish youth organisation in the centres.

Each year, the SIG organises a national ‘Whitsun Gathering’. The aim of this is to bridge the language watershed by bringing young people from the German and French speaking areas closer together.

One-week youth camp

There is also a week-long summer camp for children between 8 and 14 years of age. This creates an opportunity to experience traditional Jewish values in an informal setting and make new friends.

Each year during the Christmas holidays, there is a winter camp for young people between 12 and 18 years of age.

The holiday camps are kosher and run along Halachic lines.
